Singer Jesse Hughes of Eagles Of Death Metal is offering profound thanks to U2 for letting them share their stage at U2's Paris concert on Monday. SCOTT WEILAND - EX-WIFE

Scott Weiland's ex-wife says December 3rd is not the day he died so much as the day hope was lost. Mary Forsberg writes in Rolling Stone she and their two teenage children, Noah and Lucy, are angry and sad, but they are ``most devastated that he chose to give up.'' She says Noah and Lucy lost their father years ago. Forsberg says Weiland was ``a paranoid man who couldn't remember his own lyrics and who was only photographed with his children a handful of times in 15 years of fatherhood.'' She says even after they broke up, she'd still try to help Weiland with his paranoid fits so that he could show up to his kids' school functions. Forsberg ends by saying, ``Skip the depressing T-shirt with 1967-2015 on it - use the money to take a kid to a ballgame or out for ice cream.''

POP MUSICIANS REMEMBER FIRST TIME THEY HEARD THEIR SONGS ON THE RADIO

Jason Derulo first heard his song ``Watcha Say'' on the radio at 4 A.M. while coming home from the studio and he thought, ``This is not happening!'' Adam Lambert says he first heard ``What Do You Want For Me'' on the radio in the car. He calls it ``surreal'' and ``an original high.''

Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line was home in Nashville when ``Cruise'' first was played on the radio and a friend called to tell him. Kelley says he jumped into his Tahoe, cranked up the volume and said, ``Thank you, Lord.'' Aldean says a moment like that ``changes your life,'' and Kelley says it's ``the coolest thing ever.''

She was a big fan of old-time country and 1980s country, so she'd sing anything by Tanya Tucker or Mary Chapin Carpenter. She also liked Johnny Cash's ``Tennessee Flat Top Box'' and Willie Nelson's ``Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain.'' Carlile's new album, ``The Firewatcher's Daughter,'' is out now.

MCCARTNEY-SEAL HUNT

Paul McCartney is calling again for an end to Canada's East Coast commercial seal hunt, calling it a ``senseless slaughter'' in a statement released by Humane Society International.

The group plans to document the hunt on film as it has for years.

McCartney says videos demonstrate year after year that these seals are ``dying a horrible death for their fur.'' But Terry Audla, president of a group representing about 55-thousand Canadian Inuit, says McCartney should stick to what he knows. He says the rock star is ``perpetuating myths, disregarding science and traditions, and turning a blind eye to the needs of working people to earn a living and feed their families.''

R.E.M. BY MTV TO BE RELEASED ON DVD AND BLU-RAY

R.E.M. and MTV came of age together. From the start, their fates were intertwined with the band releasing its first single in July 1981, just weeks before the network premiered its first music video. From that point on, MTV documented everything about the Grammy® Award winning band – their music, their stories, and ultimately their decision to disband in 2011.  R.E.M. By MTV, the acclaimed feature-length documentary by filmmaker Alexander Young, draws exclusively from archival events and traces the history of R.E.M. and MTV in real time, which makes it feel as exciting and immediate as it did when it took place.

R.E.M. BY MTV will be available for the first time ever on Blu-Ray and as a stand-alone DVD on June 2. Both the Blu-Ray and DVD of R.E.M. BY MTV include the feature-length documentary as well as five deleted scenes and five seminal R.E.M. live performances, all of which were previously available only in last fall’s REMTV 6-DVD boxed set.

“Alexander Young's documentary is a fine way to tell the story of R.E.M. through its various twists and turns, as captured in real time by MTV's cameras-- it has some great funny bits too!” said longtime R.E.M. manager Bertis Downs.

On April 5, 1980 four college pals – Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe – took the stage together for the first time to play at a friend's birthday party. The band they started that night stayed together for thirty years and changed the shape of rock music. R.E.M. BY MTV tells R.E.M.'s story in their own words, through three decades of performances, never–before-seen footage, and interviews from MTV and their sister channels in the USA and around the world.

R.E.M. BY MTV Bonus Live Performances:

“Find The River” – Live In Cologne, May 12, 2001

AC/DC DRUMMER

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has avoided a trial by pleading guilty to
charges of drug possession and threatening to kill a man who used to
work for him.

Rudd acknowledged in a summary of facts presented in a New
Zealand court yesterday he had offered large amounts of cash, cars
and a house to an associate to have an intended victim ``taken
out.''

He also acknowledged he had called the victim and said he was
going to kill him.

Rudd is out on bail until he is sentenced in June.
He faces up to seven years in prison.

His lawyer says he's working on a solution that would involve no
legal consequences for Rudd, as permitted under New Zealand law.

JUSTIN BEIBER

A lawyer for Justin Bieber says he never claimed his client wasn't present during an alleged assault on a Toronto limousine driver who is now suing the Canadian pop star.

Brian Greenspan says his defence has always been that Bieber didn't commit the alleged assault on Dec. 30, 2013, not that he wasn't there.

The lawyer representing the limousine driver told The Canadian Press last month that he looked forward to ``cross-examining Mr.Bieber on his non-presence or indeed his non-existence.''

Clayton Ruby was quoted in a March 29 story as saying Bieber's lawyer had said his client ``wasn't present, it wasn't him.''

Ruby retracted part of his statement Wednesday after Greenspan argued it would raise ``the suggestion of an inconsistency'' in Bieber's version of events, which could hinder him in the suit.

The lawyer says his comment claiming Greenspan said Bieber wasn't present ``is not accurate at all,'' but the part about Greenspan saying it wasn't him ``is accurate as far as I knew then, and seems to be accurate today.''

LEMMY - OBIT

Motorhead frontman Lemmy was not just one of the most bombastic musicians in rock and roll, he was one of the most quotable. When asked in a 2006 Associated Press interview what kept him going for so long, his response was, ``Dumb luck.'' He told the A-P in 1996 Motorhead was the last great rock band. He said, ``If your parents don't hate it, there's something wrong with it.

It's not rock and roll, right? Your parents have to be unsettled by it.'' As for his own mother, Lemmy said, ``I think she's just relieved I have a steady job.'' Lemmy said people were amazed he never lost his hearing, but his response was, ``People think it's extraordinary because all these bloody people who are doing tests somewhere on lab rats tell them it's extraordinary.'' When asked how he defines the word ``old,'' Lemmy responded, ``When going out with a girl half your age is no longer illegal.'' Lemmy died of an aggressive form of cancer Monday at the age of 70.

The father of a film worker killed by a train on the set of a movie about Gregg Allman is asking a Georgia judge to keep the film's director in jail. Richard Jones, the father of camera assistant Sarah Jones, is asking the judge to deny a request from ``Midnight Rider'' director Randall Miller for early release from his two-year jail sentence. Miller entered a plea deal last March for involuntary manslaughter. Sarah Jones was killed in February 2014 while the crew was filming without permission on a railroad bridge and a freight train came through. Miller's lawyers are asking for early release because they say Miller's weight gain, shortness of breath and elevated blood pressure may be signs of congestive heart failure. They say he's also been a model prisoner.

Richard Jones says if Miller gets early release, it sends the message that ``Hollywood gets a break.''

BECK GIVES GRACIOUS RESPONSE TO KANYE WEST

Beck is taking the whole Kanye West thing in stride. Beck tells Us Weekly he was excited that West came on stage with him when Beck's ``Morning Phase'' won the album of the year Grammy. Beck says West deserved to be on stage as much as anybody and has put out many great records in the past five years. West told E! Entertainment that Beck should ``respect artistry'' and should have given the award to Beyonce'. Beck says he thought Beyonce' was going to win and adds, ``Come on, she's Beyonce'!'' Beck says in spite of West's dig about his artistry, he still loves West and thinks he's ``genius.''

SHIRLEY MANSON, PAUL STANLEY DISS KANYE WEST

Beck may be gracious about Kanye West jumping on stage during his big Grammy win, but other musicians aren't.

Shirley Manson of Garbage writes an open letter to West on her Facebook page saying, ``It is YOU who is busy disrespecting artistry.'' She says West is making himself look ``small and petty and spoilt'' and Beyonce' doesn't need West to fight for her. Paul Stanley of Kiss sent a profane tweet saying Beck should have kicked West in an intimate spot and told him to get off the stage. West came on stage when Beck accepted his album of the year Grammy Sunday, then told E! Entertainment that Beck should ``respect artistry'' and give the award to Beyonce'.

JUSTIN BIEBER STILL HASN'T FINISHED COMMUNITY SERVICE

Justin Bieber is blaming a bum ankle for not doing his community service in a vandalism case. Probation officials wrote in a report yesterday that Bieber says he couldn't complete five days of community labour as planned in early January because of a severe ankle sprain suffered during a soccer game. He provided a chiropractor's report as proof. Bieber also says he didn't do the service because he was busy taping several TV shows and being in the studio. His lawyer says she expects Bieber to complete the service and his anger management counselling by his next court date in May.

Bieber pleaded no contest to misdemeanour vandalism in July after he was accused of throwing eggs at his neighbour's house last year.

JACK WHITE'S MANAGEMENT LASHES OUT AT COLLEGE NEWSPAPER

Jack White's management say White loved playing at the University of Oklahoma recently. However, it says the student newspaper publishing the private tour rider was ``unfortunate, unprofessional and very unwelcoming.'' The Oklahoma Daily published details of White's backstage requirements, including high-quality prosciutto, a New York strip steak and guacamole made with a specific recipe, but absolutely no bananas. His management says White does not write the rider or make demands, and the rider must cover the requirements of 30 crew members. The managers deny reports they ever said White would never play at OU again, but they do say, ``Now that it's out there, we recommend you try Lalo's guacamole recipe. It's delicious.''

APPEALS COURT REVIVES ``JERSEY BOYS'' LAWSUIT

The Four Seasons have had a legal fight they thought was over come back again. A federal appeals court has revived a copyright lawsuit against Frankie Valli and Robert Gaudio over the musical ``Jersey Boys.'' Donna Corbello sued them in 2011 for copyright infringement. She says the musical is based in part on an unpublished autobiography of Thomas DeVito of The Four Seasons that her late husband ghost-wrote. She says she deserves a cut of the profits from ``Jersey Boys.'' The appeals court overturned a lower court ruling in favour of Valli and Gaudio, saying there's contradictory evidence about whether Valli and Gaudio had an agreement with DeVito to produce the play in time to avoid termination of their ownership rights. The case has been sent back for further proceedings.

BACKSTREET BOYS MEANT TO MAKE ONLY A 20-MINUTE FILM

The Backstreet Boys did not intend to make a documentary about themselves. Singer Nick Carter says it sort of happened when they were making a 20-minute promo. He says they didn't feel they needed to make a movie, ``it just organically did.'' They cover their 22 years together and don't shy away from the problems. They cover the stints in rehab for Carter and for A.J.

McLean, and they address Lou Pearlman, the mastermind behind the group who was sentenced to prison for an investment scam. The film ``Backstreet Boys: Show 'Em What You're Made Of'' is in theatres now.

DIANA KRALL MAKES A POP ALBUM

Diana Krall is taking on music from a different point of view. Krall's new album, ``Wallflower,'' is a pop record rather than a jazz one. Krall says she did a pop album because she wanted to work with producer David Foster and because it was the right time. Krall remakes songs by The Eagles, Elton John, Bob Dylan and The Mamas And The Papas on ``Wallflower,'' but she's not worried about her jazz fans thinking she's abandoning them. Krall says she's always seen herself as a jazz pianist first and some will like this album and some will not.

Canadian-born singer and actress Vanity has died of kidney disease at the age of 57. She rocketed to fame as a protege of Prince, and fronted her own group ``Vanity 6'' with steamy hits like ``Nasty Girl.'' EAGLES OF DEATH METAL

The last time they were on a stage in Paris, they had to flee for their lives. This time, the U.S. rock band Eagles of Death Metal were there to remember -- and perform. The group did a show yesterday at the Olympia concert hall -- their first time back playing in Paris since their Nov. 13 show was shattered by a massacre perpetrated by Islamic extremist suicide bombers. As frontman Jesse Hughes addressed the crowd at the start of yesterday's show, he declared: ``Bonsoir Paris, we're ready for this.'' Some in the audience for the show were at the massacre at the Nov. 13 show at the Bataclan. One said in the months since the attacks, he'd be afraid to even go to the movies. But he noted the added security for yesterday's show made him feel more secure.

GRAMMYS - RATINGS

It had more emotion than recent Grammy Awards shows. But it also had fewer viewers. The numbers are out for Monday's Grammys telecast on CBS. And the Nielsen ratings say it was seen by an average of nearly 25 million viewers. That was 300,000 fewer viewers than for last year's show -- and last year's edition was the smallest Grammys audience since 2009. This year's Grammys show was held on a Monday for the first time ever -- which may have cut into the audience. It was also aired live in the Pacific and Mountain time zones -- regions where it is usually shown on a tape delay.

LAURYN HILL VS. GRAMMYS

We may never get to know the real deal about why Lauryn Hill didn't show up for the Grammys on Monday night. Both the singer and the Grammy bosses are sticking to their stories -- which blame the other side for the snafu. Hill's people say the singer bailed because her performance was announced prematurely and ``without approval'' by the Grammys. Hill's reps also say she had shows to do all weekend, which left her no time to prep for the Grammys. For their part, the Grammy people say Hill statement is inaccurate on several fronts. Recording Academy president Neil Portnow says it was The Weeknd who asked Hill to perform as a surprise. Further, he insists the Grammys never announced Hill's scheduled appearance. And Portnow notes that while Hill claimed she had no time to rehearse, she did make the run-though on the day of the show _ but never showed up for the actual Grammy gig.

---

RIHANNA - SORE CORDS

No word on how Rihanna is doing as she tries to recover from the throat ailment that caused her to miss the Grammys. Her doctor pulled the plug on her Monday performance after she scuffled through her pre-show rehearsals. Grammy president Neil Portnow says Rihanna's doctor feared if she went on, she'd risk needing the kind of surgery that laid Adele up for a while.

DODGERS - CONCERTS

The Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to make their home more accessible to giants. And no, we aren't talking about their San Francisco-based baseball rivals _ because you know that would never happen. In this case, the ``giants'' would be big-name music artists who might be lured to having a concert or two at Dodger Stadium. The team has signed a multi-year deal with a concert promoting firm to bring more big-name shows to the ballpark in Chez Ravine. Since it opened in 1962, Dodger Stadium has hosted shows by acts like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Madonna, Elton John, Michael Jackson and David Bowie.

---

GRAMMYS RATINGS FALL

The Grammys people like to call their show ``music's biggest night.'' But that designation doesn't appear to apply to TV viewers. While this year's Grammys delivered some emotional moments, it didn't deliver a big enough audience to keep it from being the lowest-rated ceremony in 7 years. The Nielsen ratings say the show on CBS was seen by an average 24.95 million viewers. That's 300,000 fewer viewers than for last year's edition.

And the 2015 Grammys had been the smallest Grammy audience since 2009. This year's edition of the Grammys was held on a Monday -- the first time that happened. Apparently the Recording Academy wanted to see if the show could draw an audience on President's Day, a federal holiday. It also apparently didn't want to compete with Valentine's Day, which fell on Sunday this year, the usual night for the Grammys.

KANYE - EZRIN

Kanye West is firing back at veteran Canadian music producer Bob Ezrin after he published a scathing takedown of the rapper's career.

The Juno winner, and co-producer of Pink Floyd's classic ``The Wall,'' wrote an extensive blog post about the outspoken performer, saying that he doesn't think West's music will stand the test of time.

Ezrin says West's lyrics get a lot of hype but don't stand up against the work of others like N.W.A. or Kendrick Lamar on addressing social issues.

He pointed to Jay-Z, Tupac Shakur and even M.C. Hammer as other rappers more likely to have a bigger lasting impact.

West responded to Ezrin on Twitter, questioning whether anyone has heard of the 66-year-old producer, who has also worked with Alice Cooper, Peter Gabriel and Lou Reed.

He also offered to give Ezrin's children free West-branded fashion accessories to ``make up for the embarrassment'' he caused his family.

Canadian Celine Dion honoured her late husband Rene Angelil last night when she returned to the stage in Las Vegas.

Angelil died from cancer on January 14th at age 73. The first few minutes of Dion's show at Caesars Palace were devoted to Angelil, starting with a video tribute to his life. Dion was visibly moved when she told the crowd that her late husband accompanies her on stage every night and would always be with her. The ``love tribute'' tribute that preceded the performance will be repeated before each of Dion's shows in Las Vegas over the next three weeks.

HALEY WILLIAMS MARRIES

It was a celebrity wedding, all right.

But the trappings for the nuptials for Hayley Williams were more pop and punk than Hollywood. As for the wedding cake: it was crafted from 100 doughnuts _ and the reception was held at Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant in Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville. MADONNA - PHILIPPINES

She hasn't yet sang a tune or busted a move on stage. But Madonna has already made her stay in the Philippines a successful one for the locals. The pop star showed up at shelters for orphans and street children. The singer took selfies with kids and took a tour of the orphanage _ and sat on a mat with kids who are at the shelter. This apparently wasn't one of those kinds of things to get attention, either. A shelter official says Madonna only gave them a one-hour heads up that she'd be visiting.

MAGIC SHOP STUDIO

Earlier this year, we lost David Bowie. Now it appears New York City will soon be losing a recording studio that was one of his favourites to work in. The Magic Shop is shutting down, after 28 years in the music business. The New York Times reports the studio will be shuttered because of a dispute with the landlord. Aside from Bowie, Norah Jones, the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and Woody Guthrie laid down tracks at the Magic Shop. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters had teamed up with the owner to buy the studio. But the co-op board of the building that houses it rejected the bid.

ITUNES USERS LIKE U2 AFTER ALL

All those people who complained about U-2's free album on their iTunes account appear to be a vocal minority. A study by research firm The Kantar Group finds in January, U-2 accounted for 23 per cent of the music listened to on iOS devices. The next biggest artist was Taylor Swift at 11 per cent, then Katy Perry at eight per cent. The study also found that 95 per cent of the people who listened to U-2 that way heard at least one track from the ``Songs of Innocence'' album. Guitarist The Edge says it was a big risk to give away ``Songs of Innocence,'' but today they can say the experiment worked.

``PHYSICAL GRAFFITI'': JIMMY PAGE'S LABOR OF LOVE

Jimmy Page wanted to remaster Led Zeppelin's music because he hates how modern versions sound. Page says the compression of M-P-3s takes away so many textures that the files do not represent what the band did. The latest reissue is ``Physical Graffiti,'' out this week. Page says after delving into the project, he was satisfied that there was nothing he would have done differently. So that's out of the way -- what's next for Page? He won't say. He says when he's ready to announce his plans for new music, he will, but he doesn't want to be constantly second-guessed in the meantime.

DAVID BOWIE CANADA

About 900 people packed a Toronto concert venue last night to pay tribute to the beloved performer who died on Sunday from cancer at the age of 69.

Holy Holy, a band comprised of former Bowie collaborators, performed a variety of his early songs, but the show almost didn't happen.

Longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti told the crowd they wondered if they should go ahead with the Opera House show, which was scheduled months ago as part of a North America tour.

But Visconti said they decided ``there is no better way to work through grief than through music.''

And, due to overwhelming demand, the band has added a second Toronto show to be held tonight.

Holy Holy began by performing Bowie's 1970 album ``The Man Who Sold The World'' in its entirety before charging through other favourites from the Ziggy Stardust era.

Next month, Visconti will lead a house band for a Bowie memorial concert at New York's Carnegie Hall.

The event had been scheduled months ago as a tribute concert with performances of Bowie songs by 20 artists, including Cyndi Lauper, the Roots and Ann Wilson of Heart.

``LET'S DANCE'' PUB IN AUSTRALIA SEES BOOM IN BUSINESS SINCE DAVID BOWIE'S DEATH

Among the people around the world paying tribute to David Bowie are the drinkers at a pub in the Australian Outback in a town of fewer than 200 people -- but they have a special connection to him. The only pub in the town of Carinda, a 400-mile drive from Sydney in New South Wales, was the setting for Bowie's ``Let's Dance'' video in 1983. The pub's current owner, Malcolm George, says no one knew Bowie was coming that day.

He says business has been nonstop since Bowie died on Sunday.  Bartender Marie Draper says tourists gravitate to the wall with the brown and green tiles where Bowie plays his guitar in the video.

George says when he bought the bar, the tiles had fallen from the wall, so he stripped tiles from elsewhere to restore it.

LAW STUDENT GETS SIR MIX-A-LOT'S OLD PHONE NUMBER

Seattle University law student Jonathan Nichols thought it would be a good idea to get a local phone number to help with his job search. Then he started getting texts to check out videos, calls from luxury car dealers asking if he wanted a test drive and pictures of scantily clad women, according to the Seattle Times. Turns out he has Sir Mix-A-Lot's old phone number. Nichols figured it out because the car dealers would ask for Anthony Ray, Mix's real name, and the photos came more frequently on August 12, Mix's birthday. Nichols plans to keep the number. Mix suggests Nichols should not check texts in front of his wife and should not say ``yes'' to anything. He says if any of the women send good pictures, Nichols should give them his new number, but he shouldn't give it to the car dealerships.

He says the secondary force is that they don't know which guy is going to make the first mistake. Gibbons says it's a constant challenge that keeps them on their toes.

KATY PERRY PREPARES FOR SUPER BOWL

Katy Perry is promising her Super Bowl halftime show will be colorful, funny and in good taste. Perry says her goal is to have people talk about her music and nothing else by the end. She knows the reputation of performers who pushed too far with the Super Bowl halftime, and while she says she can't control other people, she says she has no incentive to sabotage herself.

Perry says her kind of sexiness is not blatant but done with a wink.

She also believes the NFL needs someone like her after Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice was seen assaulting his then-fiancee in an elevator. Perry says she's all about female empowerment and her songs like ``Roar'' and ``Firework'' mean there's no better person for the halftime show than her.

DON FELDER REMEMBERS GLENN FREY

Don Felder had always hoped he and Glenn Frey would speak again. Felder says he felt ``unbelievable sorrow'' hearing the news of Frey's death on Monday. Felder says Frey was ``the leader and everybody looked up to him.'' Felder and Frey famously fought on stage during The Eagles show in Long Beach, California, in 1980 that led to the breakup of the band. They regrouped in 1994, but Felder was forced out of the band in 2001.

Felder says in spite of their difference, he remembers Frey most for the music they made together and for the ``laughter and the parties.'' GLENN FREY MOURNED IN WINSLOW, ARIZONA

The town of Winslow, Arizona, danced last night in celebration of the life of the man who helped make them cool again. Winslow was a forgotten town when Interstate 40 displaced Route 66 and routed travellers around its downtown. Frey sang about standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, in the song ``Take It Easy,'' and people came to town hoping the girl in the flatbed Ford would slow down to take a look at them. The town created Standin' On The Corner Park with a statue of a guitar player and a mural of the girl in the Ford in the late 1990s. Tom McCauley, who is part of a foundation that stages the annual Standin' On The Corner Festival, says this year's festival in September will be dedicated to Frey.

Sting and Gabriel will begin their Rock Paper Scissors tour June 21 in Columbus, Ohio. Gabriel says, ``'Rock' makes the music, 'paper' is an offer we can't refuse and 'scissors' we do the business and then we're off.'' He says he knows he'll get along fine with Sting on tour because they had a great time together during the Amnesty International Tour in 1986. He says they had a lot of great music and pillow fights on that tour.

Champion says Bowie responded, ``It's not a very good song, is it?'' They took that as a no. TAYLOR MOMSEN OF PRETTY RECKLESS: IT'S ALL ROCK TO ME

Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless doesn't think rock should be whittled down further into guy rock and girl rock. Momsen says rock is a niche anyway. She says all her rock heroes were bands fronted by men, so the fact that she's a woman fronting a band isn't important because she's doing the same thing.

Momsen says she doesn't face much sexism in the music business anyway -- at least from men. She says the women tend to be the aggressive ones toward her, and she finds that funny.

MICK JAGGER REMEMBERS DAVID BOWIE

Mick Jagger knew when David Bowie was copying him, because Bowie would tell him outright. Jagger tells Rolling Stone Bowie would steal a dance move and tell Jagger it was one of his. SARA BAREILLES - BROADWAY

Sara Bareilles had figured her ``Waitress'' album would be like her version of the soundtrack of the musical of the same name.
