Alice Cooper and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry are making good for all the hearing they've blown out over the years.

SHAKIRA  - FISHER-PRICE

Shakira believes toys can be empowering to children, not a way to spoil them. Shakira says a child's primary obligation is to play, and a toy can be a tool to help a child discover the world. She has teamed with Fisher-Price for a line of children's educational toys and an app to assist teachers. Shakira has been a longtime supporter of education initiatives and now that she's a mother, she's amped that up. She says she sends messages with ideas for improvements all day to her son's school principal and the principal has got to be sick of her by now.

DAUPHIN'S COUNTRYFEST

Dauphin's Countryfest, Canada's longest running country music festival, is pleased to announce that country music star DWIGHT YOAKAM will play the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Main Stage on Sunday night,

Pioneering honey-tonker Yoakam began his major label recording career 30 years ago, with distinctive vocals accented with his Kentucky croom. His latest album, Second Hand Heart, was self-produced, and reflects where he's been, and where he's going.

Yoakam played Countryfest once before, in 2004. Now fans will get a second chance to see him in 2016.

BILLBOARD HONOURS MERLE HAGGARD WITH TOP RECOGNITION:

Back in November, Billboard Magazine released their list of "The 30 Greatest Country Artists of the Modern Era." Topping the list, in the number once position, is Merle Haggard. This is why they chose him: "Jimmie Rodgers and Johnny Cash sang about the prison experience, but Merle Haggard lived it. A singer/songwriter who made his mark with songs about the common men and women, his music ran the gamut - from songs of love and heartbreak to unabashed patriotism."

It's not just media who have labeled Haggard the best country artist. The acclaim comes from his peers too. Country Outfitter Life recently posed the question  to Country Music Hall of Fame member Vince Gillm about who he thought was the greatest country music artist of all time, and Vince Gill said Merle Haggard. "He epitomized everything I wanted to be," said Gill,

Merle will entertain fans at Dauphin's Countryfest for the first time ever, on Sunday July 3.

UNIVERSITY CANCELS COMMON AS COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER

Kean University in New Jersey wanted Common as commencement speaker for the music he's made. Now it's cancelled him because of the music he's made. The Record newspaper reports Common was announced as the speaker on Monday but university spokeswoman Susan Kayne says the announcement was made prematurely. Kayne says students expressed interest in Common because he composed the Oscar-winning song ``Glory'' with John Legend, who was their last commencement speaker. However, state troopers consider it a slap in the face to invite Common because of ``A Song for Assata.'' It's a track he did in 2000 about Assata Shakur, who was convicted of killing a state trooper in 1973.

DEF LEPPARD REFLECT ON THE CHANGING NATURE OF ROCK

When Def Leppard started, they never dreamed of being a band going into their fourth decade of music because no one had ever done that back then. Singer Joe Elliott says in the late 1970s, The Who and The Rolling Stones had been together maybe 15 years and that seemed like forever. He says The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney still sell out stadiums, so that proves that age doesn't really matter anymore. Def Leppard will tour with Styx and Tesla this summer.

KANYE WEST CLARIFIES HIS COMMENTS ABOUT BECK

Kanye West admits he misspoke when he took aim at Beck winning the album of the year Grammy instead of Beyonce'. West tells ``On Air With Ryan Seacrest'' he didn't mean any disrespect when he said Beck should be ``respecting artistry.'' He acknowledges it was ``a miswording'' on his part. West says he was upset that Beck did not mention other nominees as worthy of winning during his speech. He calls Beck one of the nicest guys and most respected musicians, but West doesn't have much respect for the Grammys. West says his jumping on stage with Beck was ``kind of a joke, like the Grammys themselves.'' He says the Grammys are ``like a broke clock.  They're right only, like, twice a day.''

JIMMY PAGE REMINISCES ABOUT LEARNING TO PLAY GUITAR

Jimmy Page envies the budding musicians of today, because they can just go on the Internet to find out how to play something. Page recalls searching record stores for 45s and slowing the records down so he could pick out every note. He says any time Ricky Nelson would put out a record, he'd buy it, knowing that his guitarist, James Burton, would never disappoint. Page says he was jealous of American guitarists, who could watch the ``Les Paul and Mary Ford Show.'' Page says it would have made it so much easier if he could have seen what Les Paul was doing.

Van Halen recalls his family showing up in California in 1962 with about 50-dollars and a piano, but no job and not even a grasp of English. He says music is what saved them. Today, he will donate his musical instruments to the National Museum of American History in Washington. His response to the fact that the Smithsonian is recognizing him: ``Only in America.''

JIMMY PAGE DEFENDS LED ZEPPELIN'S EXCESSES

Led Zeppelin in their heyday needed a bit of extravagance, according to Jimmy Page. He says they got a reputation for excesses like private planes, but that had a practical side.

Page says they would base themselves out of New York and fly to the surrounding cities for concerts. He says they'd play five nights a week and three hours a night, so with that schedule a private plane didn't seem so excessive to them. The deluxe edition of Led Zeppelin's ``Physical Graffiti'' album comes out Tuesday, 40 years to the day since its original release. Nash says the technicians at the sound board couldn't figure out who had which microphone, and the members of CSN couldn't hear each other. Nash says CSN weren't at their best anyway. He says the producers of the show apologized to them, and ``if we did one lousy show in our lives, so be it.''

RICK SPRINGFIELD CRIES DURING TESTIMONY

Rick Springfield is on trial again for allegedly falling onto a woman and causing serious injuries. The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports Springfield broke into tears during testimony Tuesday in New York Supreme Court. Vicki Calcagno is suing Springfield for his performance at the 2004 New York State Fair. She says he came into the crowd and put one foot on the back of a metal bench and the other on a white fence. She says he fell backward and his rear end hit her forehead and knocked her unconscious, leaving her with lasting injuries. Springfield's manager testified he watches Springfield intently at every show and never saw Springfield fall. A 2007 trial ended in mistrial when another woman came forward, saying she also was injured when Springfield fell on her.

Vanessa Carlton is a mom. Her husband, Deer Tick singer John McCauley, posted a photo of their daughter Sid, born on Tuesday. Carlton tweeted her thanks for ``all the sweet wishes on our daughter'' and notes, ``She's the quiet observer. We are in for it.'' The birth is a triumph for Carlton after a time of pain. She had told fans in 2013 she had an ectopic pregnancy that resulted in having her right fallopian tube removed.

BOB MARLEY DVD WILL USE FAN FOOTAGE, ANIMATION

When the creators of a new Bob Marley concert video found they didn't have the video to match the audio, they threw in a cartoon. ``Bob Marley and the Wailers -- Easy Skanking In Boston '78'' was created from footage that a fan shot right in front of the stage, with Marley's permission. Audio of the concert was recorded as well, but there are gaps in the film because the fan had to change reels. The gaps have been augmented with animation created especially for the project. The concert will be released on D-V-D, Blu-Ray and C-D on February 17. It's the first of several releases and events to mark the 70th anniversary of Marley's birth this year.

AMERICAN IDOL

Who doesn't know ``The Beverly Hillbillies'' theme? J-Lo for one. Jennifer Lopez was amazed that Keith Urban and Harry Connick Junior knew the theme song from the iconic 1960s sitcom. Urban and Connick broke into the tune with a pretty banjo playing blonde on last night's ``American Idol.'' Ellen Peterson, from Branson, Missouri, got her golden ticket to Hollywood before doing the Hillbillies' theme with two of the three judges. A blue-haired, accordion playing waitress also moves on, as does a Florida accountant who goes by the handle Big Sexy. Tonight, the Idol auditions move to J-Lo's hometown, New York City.

MOS DEF MUST FACE CHARGES OF USING ``WORLD PASSPORT'' TO LEAVE SOUTH AFRICA

What is a ``world passport'' and why is Mos Def stuck in South Africa? Mos Def must appear in court in South Africa for using an unrecognized ``world passport'' in trying to leave the country and for helping his family overstay their visitors' visas. They have lived in South Africa since 2013. Mos Def's passport was issued by the World Service Authority, the administrative branch of the World Government of World Citizens, a group based in Washington and founded in 1953. South Africa does not recognize that passport. Mos Def had used an American passport to enter South Africa 10 times. Mos Def left a voice recording on Kanye West's website rapping, ``I committed no crime. Why is the state wasting my time?''

FOUR MEMBERS OF ABBA SHOW UP TO RESTAURANT OPENING

ABBA has reunited! And that was it and now they're off in their own lives again. The four members of ABBA made a rare joint appearance yesterday in Stockholm for the opening of a restaurant owned by Bjorn Ulvaeus . They did not sing a note or pose for pictures. The restaurant is inspired by the ABBA musical ``Mamma Mia!'' and is set in the Greek islands, but it has a different story. Musicians and actors interact with waiters and guests, and singalongs to ABBA tunes are encouraged. Benny Andersson was asked if ABBA will ever perform again, and he said, ``I don't think so.''

JOHN LEGEND AND JUANES PLAY FOR DETAINEES IN ARIZONA

John Legend and Colombian musician Juanes played a show yesterday for people who they were not sure could even hear them. They played outside a jail in Eloy, Arizona, where undocumented immigrants were being held. Legend and Juanes performed on a flatbed truck and sang two of their own songs and one song together, Bob Marley's ``Redemption Song.'' Their intention was for the detainees to hear the music. However, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement it kept inmates in their cells because of concerns ``an unsanctioned concert'' within view of the recreation yard might provoke a disturbance. Legend told the crowd of about 100 outside the jail that they were there to bear witness to what's happening so they can tell the world about it.

Legend and Juanes toured the facility before the concert and spoke to the detainees.

LEON BRIDGES IS A MAN WITH STYLE

Leon Bridges looks as good off the stage as he does on the stage. Bridges is famed for always wearing a suit when he performs, but his idea of casual is dress pants and dress shirts.

Bridges says he likes to look good all the time. He'd wear a suit every day but he doesn't want to get them dirty before a show.

Maintenance is no big deal, even if he can't make it to the cleaners. Bridges says even if he gets all sweaty during a concert, he'll pull off the suit as soon as he's done, hang it up and it's good to go for his next show.

``AMERICAN IDOL''

No more second chances for ``American Idol''

hopefuls. In seasons past, the judges would often tell the would-be star to keep practicing and come back next year. Well, this is the last season of Idol and there is no next year. One of this season's returnees is 16-year-old Emily Brooke. She made it to the Hollywood round before being cut last year. On last night's show, Emily impressed the judges, with Harry Connick Junior saying she had the best audition of the day. The judges say Emily followed their advice and is much improved. Tonight, the last auditions ever on Idol.

MADONNA PLANS ``REBEL HEART'' RELEASE IN MARCH

Madonna has announced March 10 as the release date for her ``Rebel Heart'' album, but the avid fan can have most of it before that date. Madonna released six of the songs as an E-P before Christmas because of a leak of unfinished cuts. Fans who pre-order the album on iTunes will get two more songs on February 9th. That's eight out of the 19 songs on the album. One of the songs yet to be released is ``Iconic,'' which features Chance the Rapper and Mike Tyson.

SOCIAL DISTORTION'S MIKE NESS IS A SERIOUS PICKER

If Social Distortion is in town, you might just find singer Mike Ness at your garage sale. Ness collects Americana items from the 1940s and he spends his down time on tour looking for treasures. Ness says he's been collecting for 30 years and he's really good at it. The way he puts it, ``I could out-pick those guys on those T-V shows. I could leave them in the weeds.'' Ness realizes he can't hold onto everything, so he has a store in Orange, California, where he sells the stuff he doesn't keep.

BILLY IDOL IS SICK

Billy Idol had to miss the first two dates of his own tour. Idol's website reports he's suffering from ``a pesky chest infection'' and is under doctor's orders to rest for a few days. He had to cancel last night's tour opener in New Orleans and tonight's show in Atlanta. Idol promises to make up the dates. He plans to be good to go for Saturday's show in Philadelphia.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK READY TO SHOW OFF

New Kids On The Block are inviting the current crop of boy bands to see them in concert to see how it's done. Joey McIntyre says he hates to sound like an old fogey, but boy bands of today ``don't know what they're missing nowadays.'' New Kids will launch a tour May 1 in Las Vegas with T-L-C and Nelly. McIntyre welcomes an audience that might be fans of the other acts on the bill. He says it's nice to go onstage and know there might be people unfamiliar with what he does. He says that keeps it fresh and ``adds to the juice of the night.''

GRAMMYS ADD MORE ENTERTAINMENT

Common and John Legend will reunite for a performance at the Grammys. They will perform ``Glory'' from the film ``Selma'' during the Grammys on February 8th. 'AMERICAN IDOL'

The ``American Idol'' judges had some good news for an Air Force man. Vanessa Andrea auditioned in Minneapolis on last night's show. Her husband is on active duty. The Idol judges were impressed with her singing, guitar playing and her look. Before they had a chance to vote, Andrea whipped a cellphone out of her boot and the judges called her hubby with the news she's going to Hollywood. The judges also gave a golden ticket to a young guy who sings and plays piano like Jerry Lee Lewis. Mark Andrew also moves on. He's a new dad and works in the family's landscaping business.

Tonight, the Idol auditions move to New Orleans, Harry Connick Junior's hometown.
