SAM SMITH CREDITS TOM PETTY AND JEFF LYNNE FOR ``STAY WITH ME''

Sam Smith's representatives confirm he's now given songwriting credit for his song ``Stay With Me'' to Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. Smith's reps tell Rolling Stone the publishers of Petty's song ``I Won't Back Down'' contacted Smith's publishers to point out the common elements with ``Stay With Me.'' TOM DELONGE LEAVES BLINK-182

Guitarist Tom DeLonge is no longer in Blink-182.

Rolling Stone reports DeLonge has left the band ``indefinitely,'' according to bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker. Hoppus and Barker say they were set to play a festival and record a new album, but DeLonge ``kept putting it off without reason.'' They say they got an email from DeLonge's manager a week before they were due to hit the studio that said DeLonge didn't want to participate in any Blink-182 projects because he wants to focus on other non-musical endeavours. Hoppus and Barker say, ``No hard feelings, but the show must go on for our fans.'' They recruited Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio to play with them for the Musink Festival in Orange County, California, in March. DeLonge has not commented on the split.

PHILLIP PHILLIPS MAKES LEGAL CHALLENGE AGAINST ``AMERICAN IDOL'' PRODUCER

``American Idol'' winner Phillip Phillips is taking on the show's parent companies in a case that could have huge implications. The Hollywood Reporter reports Phillips filed a petition with the California Labor Commissioner, saying ``Idol'' producer 19 Entertainment and its affiliates are in violation of the Talent Agencies Act. That's a California law that says only licensed talent agents can find employment for clients. Phillips says 19 has manipulated him into taking gigs that are beneficial to the company rather than him, such as a show promoting JetBlue in 2013 where he wasn't paid. Phillips also says he didn't know the name of his ``Behind the Light'' album until 19 announced it publicly. A 19 spokesperson says the company has always worked in Phillips' best interests and will defend itself vigorously. If successful, Phillips' case could pave the way for other reality show competitors getting out of contracts they feel are oppressive.

Trainor says it's a duet and she's got to find the right people to sing it.

The director of a documentary about Kurt Cobain says it's important for the public to stop making Cobain out to be a god. Brett Morgan says for the past 25 years, Cobain has ``represented heroin chic.'' He says his film, ``Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck'' is ``brutal and it's ugly and it's dark and you don't want to look at it,'' but he felt it represented reality. The film tells Cobain's story through home videos, Cobain's writings and drawings, archived interviews and animation. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday and will air on HBO in May.

It wasn't just any guitar, but Frampton's absolute favourite, and the one he played on ``Frampton Comes Alive.'' Frampton writes on his Facebook page Gibson is doing a limited run of replicas of The Phoenix, down to the burn marks from the crash.

JIMMY BUFFETT - ``MARGARITAVILLE'' - COURT CASE

A panel of judges has ruled that city officials in Key West, Florida, just don't understand Jimmy Buffett.

The Key West Citizen reports city officials twice referenced lyrics to Buffett's song ``Margaritaville'' in a case against Brad Buerhle of Richmond, Virginia, who wants to open a tattoo parlour in Key West. City officials opposed Buerhle's plan because rash tourists would get ``regrettable tattoos'' and Key West would get a negative connotation. They cited the ``Margaritaville'' lyric describing a tattoo as, ``A Mexican cutie/How it got here I haven't a clue.'' However, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals says the city misunderstood the lyrics, because the character in the song also calls the tattoo ``a real beauty'' and does not seem embarrassed about it. The case has been sent back to district court for more proceedings consistent with the appeals court opinion.

Brings $11.8 Million to the Province

An economic impact assessment of the event, administered by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, shows that more than 14,500 attendees took in one or more of the Country Music Week marquee events between September 10 and 13, 2015. Overall, the event attracted over 3,800 people from outside of the province, of which 38 per cent were first-time visitors. Those fans made a special trip to Nova Scotia to take in Canada’s largest annual combination of industry conference and music festival dedicated to the genre of country music.

Nearly 10,000 attendees packed the newly renovated Scotiabank Centre for the culmination of Country Music Week, the 2015 CCMA Awards Show, with a broadcast reach on CBC-TV and CMT (Canada) of over 3.1 million viewers.

“As we celebrate the CCMA’s 40th anniversary this year, we’re thrilled to be able to continue the tradition of bringing Country Music Week and the CCMA Awards Show to cities across Canada,” said Don Green, President of the CCMA. “To have the ability to deliver our mandate of educating, elevating and celebrating country music and to also bring significant economic value to our host city and province shows the cultural value of our CCMA initiatives – initiatives we hope Canadians from coast to coast will join us in embracing and celebrating.”

“FACTOR is very pleased to support the CCMA and we’re particularly gratified to see that the event is not only an important cultural attraction for Canada’s many country music fans, but continues to generate important economic benefits for hosting cities and regions. Everyone wins, well done,” said Duncan McKie, President of FACTOR.

“Congratulations to the Canadian Country Music Association, its board, the local host committee and the hundreds of volunteers on the success Country Music Week 2015, which brought hundreds of delegates and thousands of country music fans to visit Nova Scotia from across Canada and around the world, ” said Tony Ince, Nova Scotia’s Minister of Communities Culture and Heritage. “Hosting Country Music Week in Nova Scotia provided exposure for our local musicians on the Canadian and world country music stage.”

“Halifax continues to demonstrate that it is one of Canada’s best event cities, lending its East Coast enthusiasm to the recognition of country music’s finest, and drawing new people and new spending to our city in the process,” said Mike Savage, Mayor of Halifax.

Pretty soon they had built a groove out of the beatboxing and the stapler clicks.

Eldredge says that's what he loves about making music: he can make it out of anything. ``Illinois'' is out now.

One will be based on the band's story, while the other is not. Murphy says he will decide in the next 30 days which one to go with. He says it will be the one that's best for an audience, ``not what works best for the band or their egos.'' Murphy hopes to get the musical staged by 2017.

TEMPE FESTIVAL - CRUSH

Authorities say it was a gradual push rather than a crowd surge that created a dangerous situation at the Summer Ends Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona, on Saturday. Medical officials say the growing pressure of fans pushing forward to see the reggae band Rebelution trapped people against a barrier in front of the stage.

Nine people were hurt, including one with a life-threatening head injury. The conditions of the other eight are not known. The festival continued Sunday with no problems as Kanye West headlined.

KASKADE SINGS!

Kaskade believes the theme of his new album, ``Automatic,'' can be summed up in the song ``We Don't Stop.'' It's a different song for him because it's one of the rare times the vocalist is himself. Kaskade says he did that because the song did not call for a precise vocal. Although he doesn't sing a lot, he opened some shows on his last tour by singing, and that blew people away. Kaskade says, ``People flipped out and were pulling their eyeballs out of their heads and throwing them onstage.''

``Automatic'' is out now.
