Tracy Schmidt has had the 'acting' title removed from her role as the province's Education minister.
The government announced yesterday that Schmidt will be taking over the portfolio permanently, after serving as interim education minister in place of Nello Altomare.
Altomare passed away earlier this month.
Schmidt, who was also the environment minister, will now relinquish that position to Mike Moyes on a permanent basis.
The NDP government will need to call a byelection in the coming months to fill Altomare’s seat in the Transcona district in Winnipeg.
