Manitoba Conservation has issued the first fines ever for zebra mussel contaminated boats.
In 2017, 8,995 watercrafts were inspected and 11 percent of those needed to be decontaminated.
A total of 60 warnings were issued but only two tickets handed out.
Fines range from $252 per specimen for every mussel found on the watercraft with the maximum fine being one hundred thousand dollars
