Brandon School Division is taking the next step in protecting it's students while aboard their school buses.

Cameras will be installed on every school bus this June as a way to monitor students behaviour, any potential vandalism and illegal activity while aboard the buses.

Kevan Sumner, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for BSD says these cameras will allow bus drivers to focus on what they're paid to do.

"While most of our bus routes do operate smoothly with minimal disturbances, we have had, unfortunately, situations where student conduct does raise concerns. There was a concern for our bus drivers. They have their primary focus, on their primary task, which is driving the bus safely."

BSD says the funding for the new cameras have been planned for since last year.

In all, five cameras will be set up on each bus.
