CNUF Is In Full Force
Bitaemo! That's the greeting that many Canadian Ukrainians will be saying this long weekend.
The 51st Canadian National Ukrainian Festival has kicked off in Dauphin with day number two beginning today. The gates officially opened on Thursday around 1 pm with camp sites and tents already being pitched up for the long weekend festivities.
Day 2, will feature a number of live events through out the day with the amphitheatre gates officially opening around 1:45 pm today.
CNUF in Dauphin originated from a meeting of the Dauphin Chamber of Commerce, establishing a group from there back in 1965.

Gimli Icelandic Festival
It's all Iceland, all the time this weekend in the town of Gimli.
The annual Islendingadagurinn festival has been showcasing Icelandic culture for 127 years, including the Nordic country's Viking roots.
Festival president Robbie Rousseau says he's pretty confident it's the second-oldest cultural festival in North America, behind the Irish festival in Boston.
Aside from celebrating the culture and food of Iceland, there will be a sand castle contest, an arts show, fireworks, rides, midway games and live music.

Operation Mobilization in Zambia
A local couple from Gilbert Plains are making changes in Sub-Saharan Africa through improvements in agriculture.
Rick & Karin Fendick are selling their home on the prairies to continue work on a ground breaking agricultural program through 'Operation Mobilization' in Zambia.
Rick who is a missionary with OM and an Instructor for Foundations for Farming says agricultural practices in the country are outdated.
The Fendick's added that Zambia has some of the richest soil on the planet, and are approaching the situation village by village through OM.

ECHO Housing in Dauphin
More affordable housing is now available in Dauphin.
Emergency Community Housing Opportunity (ECHO) alongside the Canadian Mental Health Association are now offering services to residents who may be struggling to find a home.
Regional Coordinator, Marvin Fried says the Dauphin facility is currently operational. Dauphin's ECHO housing unit is located at 135 First Avenue West.

Winnipeg Senior Robbed
Winnipeg police are trying to track down a man suspected of robbing a senior who uses a walker.
Police say the suspect demanded money from the victim but then knocked him to the ground and continued to assault the elderly man.
The senior was also threatened with violence if he tried to contract police. Police describe the suspect as six-feet tall with short brown hair, dark eyes, a blue baseball hat and a T-shirt.
