Manitoba officials say the province has identified this season's first Culex tarsalis mosquito samples infected with West Nile virus.
No human cases of West Nile have been identified in the province, but there has been an increase in the number of Culex tarsalis mosquitoes.
Manitoba Agriculture says sanitation is still the most effective and important way to control flies. It's also suggested that reducing standing water is another way of preventing mosquitoes from accumulating.
The infected mosquitoes were collected last week from adult mosquito traps in Altona, West St. Paul and Winkler.
