Kids could get their first chance of the year to play around at Dauphin's splash park this weekend.

The manager for Dauphin Rec Services says it'll take some time to make sure all the kinks are out system so the splash park can stay open for good.

Until then, Terry Payne says residents should expect some intermittent down times.

"We have to let it run on occasion just to test everything. So the public may as well use it if they're around type of deal, but we might have to come at any minute and shut it down and tweak something or fix something so..."

Payne explains setting-up the splash park seems like a simple thing, but it's actually a complicated process.

"And it takes several days to get it all balanced out and the water treated and flowing properly and get the drains cleaned out from the winter. And so, it's pretty hard to predict the exact day it will be open."

The splash park did suffer some power disruptions due to the flooding last year.

Payne says some of the programming got screwed up because of that, and staff this year have been working with the manufacturer to repair the control module and install a flash memory card.

"We've got a back system now that we've worked out with the manufacturer on, so if that happens again and the programming goes down, the program can be re-installed right away from the flash memory card that's in the module, so..."

Worst case scenario, Payne says the splash park should be fully ready to go by the Countryfest weekend.
