Dauphin's Parkland Crossing is thinking big with an upcoming fundraiser.

Administrator Jamie Harvey says the Coldest Night of the Year is an awareness and fundraising event for homelessness and affordable housing, and Parkland Crossing is hoping to get a wide variety of people involved.

"This is our first major fundraising event. In years past we've done small things like having a garage sale and things like that, but this is our first big event and it's our first participation with other organizations in a national event."

A walk will be held February 25th. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the construction of four new two-bedroom apartments in the classroom wing of Parkland Crossing's main building.

Harvey says the price target they currently have on the apartments is $650 per month with utilities included.

"We're still getting quotes from the contractors so I don't have a start date yet let alone an end date, but I'm hoping to get started in February and have it completed by the end of May."

Anyone looking to get involved can contact the Parkland Crossing office or sign up online at https://canada.cnoy.org/location/dauphin.

Harvey says they're now recruiting people and businesses to support the event, including volunteers, sponsors, team captains, and walkers.
