A Parkland Member of Parliament is referring to 2016 as a tumultuous one.

With only nine days left in the year, MP for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa Robert Sopuck spoke to media today about the past year and what his plans are moving forward.

According to Sopuck, two major issues were raised in 2016 affecting the Parkland.

"It's been a tumultuous year, there's a couple of big things looming over Canada and of course our riding; First is the US election, a very unexpected result -- President elect Donald Trump -- Mr. Trump's talk about getting tough on trade is kind of concerning... the second thing is the imposition by Prime Minister Trudeau on all of us of the carbon tax, it'll cost every family about $2,500 dollars extra per year."

Sopuck also says that 70 percent of the area's cattle exports go to the United States.
