A Dauphin pharmacist says he hasn't heard of Fentanyl misuse in our area yet, but if it's in the bigger cities, it's only a matter of time before it gets here.
Barret Procyshyn says the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy has naloxone kits on hand. Naloxone is used in emergency opioid overdose situations.
He says if anyone has questions they can call them and ask for a pharmacist.
"What we're telling people is if you are in a situation where there is drug use going on nearby or in your home, or you know about it in your community and you're worried about a loved one, or yourself, you should come in and have one of these kits on hand. It's not the ideal situation, but as we're seeing in Winnipeg and every other major city across the country, it's a matter of life and death. So it's better to have some of these kits out there than none at all."
All front-line RCMP officers in Manitoba have been equipped with a naloxone nasal spray that can be quickly administered if an opioid overdose is suspected. RCMP say naloxone is a tool, but the reality is that opioids can be fatal quickly.
