A local Parkland politician is arguing for a new softwood lumber agreement with the United States.
In a recent speech to the House of Commons, Dauphin - Swan River - Neepawa MP Robert Sopuck felt it was necessary to address the current dispute.
"Well we have to get this agreement signed because you know the main lumber producer in the area is Spruce Products in the Swan River area, now they're an extremely well run company but they have a double-whammy because of the potential Tolko shutdown."
Sopuck also said that although agriculture dominates the southern portion of his large constituency, forestry is a major industry in the northern areas of the province.
