Last night,  some rules were ratified at the Mountain View School Division Board of Trustees Meeting.

The contentious issues of banning non-provincial/federal flags and having "God Save the Queen" sung by students in school were voted in, leaving a bitter taste in many mouths.

That's Jarri Thompson, speaking as a parent,  is very frustrated at what she considers a back-slide for Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ representation.

"I'm not going to give up the fight that I've been fighting for the vulnerable sector, for the Indigenous sector, for all the marginalized communities out there because I know that change takes time. I myself, as well as a lot of other community members, are working really hard to make these communities feel welcome, feel accepted, feel seen, and the best thing I can do is encourage those people to keep up the good work they are doing."

She's also made it clear she will be petitioning the provincial government for change.

MVSD board chair Jason Gryba noted that "God Save the King was never a board decision", and encouraged the public to register and attend Board meetings to make their voices heard.

The next one will be held on Thursday, March 6th, for a budget meeting.
