Three staff members who work in the Student Services Department and are teachers at DRCSS were at the legislature this weekend accepting an award.
Lesia Jensen, Melany Gamache and Kim Merasty were awarded with the Manitoba Minister of Education's Excellence in Teaching award.
They were recognized for demonstrating remarkable collaborative effort while spearheading an exceptional initiative that fosters student learning.
Lesia Jensen, says they were nominated by their administration and selected by a jury from the provincial level
"What we have done by implementing these strategies with our full team, is we feel that we have had a clear impact on school culture by directing a focus on student individual needs by supporting teachers to build positive relationship with students."
Kim Merasty says moving forward as a team, this award is a representation of how collaborative DRCSS really is.
"I think it's really a school award. Because, it's all about being a team and working together and keeping the best interests of the students at the heart of it. And the support from admin is really what pulls it all together. So moving forward, it's just reminding us that we are a team."
Jensen, Merasty and Gamache say going to the legislature was overwhelming, but felt very honored to be representing DRCSS with this award.
