A Talented Composer and product of Dauphin is set to be showcased by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra tonight.

Nic Bray grew up in Dauphin and gained a love of music through learning the saxophone and playing with local school and community bands.

Bray notes that growing up in Dauphin defined many of his core musical principles.

"A majority of my compositional conceptions, the values I hold dearest to my heart that have to do with music really all come from community-based musics and less from this Western art classical setting, and I really try to bring those values into everything that I'm doing like composition work and working with orchestras as well".

After recently winning the 2025 Emerging Composers Competition, Bray will continue his education and work towards his Master's degree in composition at Brandon University.

His Riding Mountain Park inspired piece "Spruce" will be performed tonight at the Winnipeg New Music Festival at 7 pm.
