The Swan Valley Credit Union Aquatic Centre is closed until further notice due to repeated failures with the sealant for the pool.
A new, less expensive and locally purchased sealant was used on the pool during fall maintenance but had to be removed when it was found to be too sticky.
The rec department went back to a sealant brand that they had used before but again had to postpone the reopening of the facility on December 11th when that sealant started to fail as well.
This latest closure has impacted the start date for public and private swimming lessons, as well as facility rentals and school and regular programming.
The rec department is consulting with manufacturers and pool specialists to determine why the sealants are failing, as well as to determine the best course of action for repairs.
