Charges have been laid following an assault earlier this week on the Wayweayseecappo First Nation.
Just after 5 am on Tuesday, Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers were called to a home on the reserve regarding an assault.
When they arrived, they found a female suffering from serious upper body injuries.
She was eventually airlifted to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where she is listed in critical condition.
52-year-old Derek Mecas of Waywayseecappo has been charged with aggravated assault and failing to comply with a release order and is being held in custody pending a future court date.
