Nationwide Indigenous police forces have been promised $291 million dollars to improve services.
For years there have been complaints and legal challenges that the police forces for First Nations and Inuit communities were underfunded.
Currently the federal government pays half of the cost of policing for fly-in-only and remote northern communities.
The funding will improve salaries and equipment needed for the detachments.
