A prominent farmer spoke at a public hearing focusing on Manitoba Hydro’s proposed rate increases this morning.
Dan Mazier spoke as a member of a citizen’s coalition in front of the Public Utilities Board. Dan spoke on how the increase will impact farmers.
“It’s part of our businesses usually. Usually we farm and we pay our rates and we see them going up. We know, as far as our farms that they are expanding, we need more power. Especially in modern day farming that happens to be selling dryers and anything from trying to get 3 phase power in and just upgrading, in general, it’s costing a lot more. So that’s basically what I was talking about and what would that mean in the future.”
Manitoba Hydro wants to see an annual increase of 7.9 percent for the next 6 years
