The Canadian government has announced today that they will seek authorization from the World Trade Organization to impose tariffs on the US in response to the Country of Origin Labeling requirements.
Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says the tariffs will cost more than $3-billion a year.
Ritz says today's announcement has the full support of agriculture ministers from all the provinces and territories.
"I've not heard of anybody who has cold feet. We all understand that there are times that some industries have to hold their nose a little bit, but at the end of the day we're all Canadian and we all stand together," says Ritz.
Ritz says he expects the tariffs to come into full effect by late this summer.
