It’s the final day for Rotary Radio week on CKDM.
Clayton Swanton is a local Rotarian with the Dauphin Rotary Club who is involved with one of their major annual fundraisers.
Swanton talks about Rotary’s involvement with the Manitoba Mud Run and how it got started
“When we started and we pitched it to the club, looking for the support of the club to be able to put this on, we said we’re not sure if this is going to take off; we have no idea,” explained Swanton. “We’re going to have to build some obstacles and we are going to need some money to do that. Our plan at the time was to grow it over three years, so we were committed to this for three years. We may not make money first or second year but we think that by the time the third year rolls around, this will be a good fundraiser for the club. In year one, we had incredible community support. We sold our obstacles at a sponsorship to local businesses. We had no problem with businesses jumping on board, believing in what we trying to do and we covered our costs in year one and made money at about 600 participants. Now we’re averaging about 1000 participants and we are growing every year.”
The event has grown more and more successful every passing year.
