Improving safety in the motor vehicle industry is the main goal of a new organization started by Safe Work Manitoba.
Earlier this week Safe Work Manitoba officially announced the Motor Vehicle Safety Association of Manitoba.
Portfolio leader Dave Kramer says they're hoping to see a reduction of injuries and illnesses in the industry through this program.
"Over the course of the last year, over 600 claims occoured through WCB. Many of those were lost time injury claims. Some individuals may miss a day, a week or a month from work. The ultimate goal for the safety program is to equip these members and give them knowledge, education and support to be more effective at recognizing hazards, controlling risks and ultimately preventing injuries and reducing the risk of harm to the workers."
Kramer says the association will identify and create strategies on ensuring that there are fewer injuries and put together services to help mitigate those injuries.
