Manitoba Hydro will be managing its finances differently in the next few months.
On Friday Manitoba Hydro announced it would pursue a reduction of 900 staff to help costs and reduce debt.
According to Manager of Public Affairs for Manitoba Hydro Scott Powell retirement packages are being offered to employees voluntarily.
"As part of our restructuring that we announced on Friday, we're going to be seeking to reduce our size of the company by around 900 positions... we have approximately a thousand staff that are eligible to retire at this time and we're hoping to meet a good number of that 900 through retirements, we're offering a voluntary departure program."
Along with the proposed job cuts, Powell also says Manitoba Hydro has already reduced their executive team by 30 percent.
