A petition has been launched by the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association focusing on a looming carbon tax.
The petition that gathered more than 3 thousand signatures from farmers, is calling on Ottawa and the other provinces to realize the positive impact agriculture has by storing carbon in the soil.
Executive Director of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Robin Speer feels a looming tax raises concerns, primarily for farmers.
"We've been concerned for sometime about provincial governments imposing carbon taxes on farmers and food... with Ottawa announcing in early October that they want to go ahead with a national carbon tax we became very concerned, very concerned for farmers in terms of what this is going to mean for increased taxes on them."
