Tomorrow is the 43rd annual Christmas bird count in Riding Mountain National Park.
It's an all day event, and as RMNP naturalist and project manager Ken Kingdon explains, there's more than one way to count a bird.
"The bird count is made up of kind of one of two options: there are a number of people who just prefer to sit and watch their bird feeder, so we get them to sit and count and record what birds they see coming to their feeder on that day, the other option is to get out and actively search for birds."
Kingdon says they divide the search area into sections, and generally the objective is to count every single bird in the area. The search area has a 7.5 mile radius a little bit north of Wasagaming.
Kingdon says it's kind of an excuse to get outside, but they've found over time that the information gathered through this event is becoming more and more important.
