Changes are coming to garbage pickup, and a new regular yard waste pickup will be introduced in Dauphin next year.
As of January 1st, garbage pickup will become bi-weekly. It will be picked up on the same day that recycling is picked up.
As well, for residential, those who don't have recycling out won't have their garbage collected. Businesses are exempt from this. The city says no additional garbage containers will be provided free-of-charge, but residents and businesses can purchase one, at $100 for the container and $200 dollars per year for its collection.
Regular, mechanized yard waste collection is coming in April.
Green bins will be available for residents to put compostable material into. Property owners looking to participate will be able to sign up online or by calling the city shop.
"Anything compostable can go in there. That material will be composted at the land fill, it won't be part of the stuff that's put in the land fill, so it won't fill up the land fill," says mayor Eric Irwin.
Yard waste pickup will be done on the off-week from garbage and recycling.
