On Wednesday, Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation held their Annual Public Meeting to review the year's finances and address their biggest issue.
Next year, Freshwater Fish will be forced to change things up.
The withdrawal of the province of Manitoba from the Freshwater Fish Marketing Act in 2017 means
independent fishers will be able to sell their own fish, without going through Freshwater Fish.
Interim President of Freshwater Fish John Wood says the company is prepared for the withdrawal, but is unsure when it will exactly happen.
"Until the federal government and the province of Manitoba come to an agreement on exactly how things are going to look, we're not really sure what kind of environment we're going to be working in. At the moment, the date of August 2017 was given in the media release, but the withdrawal might actually happen prior to that date."
Freshwater Fish has been working with the province of Manitoba's fishers for 45 years.
