131 years ago today, Metis leader Louis Riel was hanged in Regina.
And today, Manitoba Metis Federation president David Chartrand presented the signed Framework Agreement for a modern-day treaty with Canada at a gravesite ceremony celebrating the life and legacy of Riel.
Chartrand calls it a monumental and historic time for Manitoba's Metis.
According to the MMF, the jointly developed framework sets out the process and subject matters for formal reconciliation negotiations to address outstanding issues ruled on by the Supreme Court in 2013.
It was signed in Ottawa yesterday.
