Mountain View School Division will be getting an Eagle Staff.

MVSD is partnering up with the Skownan First Nation to build an Eagle Staff for the school division.

At Monday's Board of Trustees meeting, the board moved on the idea to have an Eagle Staff built for MVSD.

Superintendent and CEO of MVSD Donna Davidson spoke to 730 CKDM, and explained how sacred an Eagle Staff can be.

"Each of our First Nation communities have an Eagle Staff. An eagle staff to a First Nation community is like a flag to a nation. It's a sacred object, and it symbolizes the connection to Mother Earth, and it symbolizes their heritage, the language and the people."

MVSD will begin the process of the creation of the Eagle Staff on November 24th, in a special ceremony with the Skownan First Nation.
