The commander of the RCMP's Parkland detachment says there has been an increase in property crime this year, but he says it ebbs and flows.

Staff Sergeant Nolan Suss says property crime is one of the detachment's three priorities.

He says the three priorities they have this year are property crime, traffic and safe roads, and police visibility. He says priorities are pretty consistent year-to-year and they're purposely pretty general.

Not only is there an increase in property crime in Dauphin this year, Suss also says there's also been an increase in weapons crimes of late.

Unable to give many details at this time, he says RCMP believe one of the recent arsons in town to be related to some of the gun crime.

"There's been a couple of arsons and one we don't think is really related to the other violent crime but one of the arsons we believe is related to our other crimes with (the) weapons."
