Last Friday, Robb Nash visited Gilbert Plains Collegiate and made a impact on the students.
Robb Nash tells CKDM that being able to do a small interactive show like he did was a great experience not only for him and his band, but for everyone else.
Nash says that it's amazing to see how consistent the issues are from town to town, province to province, and from school to school and Gilbert Plains was no exception.
"We saw that the kids really needed to get these issues out on the table and get them talked about and you know, there were a lot of tears shed but we also had some good times and shared some laughs as well."
Nash and his band tour across Canada performing at schools, detention centres, First Nations communities and other venues talking about his life-threatening accident, self-harm, addictions and suicide.
He engages young people through the power of music and words, encouraging them to make positive life choices and lead lives of significance and purpose.
The Philanthropy group at GPCI were the ones who contacted Nash to come, and he says it's amazing how they wanted him to come, to bring his message to the school.
"It was just amazing to see. They are such emotional kids but they want to use that emotion to help other people, and that's what we are trying to get other people to do. And literally we were talking to the kids for hours afterwards. Once we went out to the bus there was students waiting by our tour bus."
Nash says it's great that everyone was able to open up about issues that they may have had and to get the conversation going.
