An upgraded CT scanner at Dauphin's hospital is more efficient and provides better image quality than its predecessor.
The recently acquired scanner, which went into use May 11, is from a site in British Columbia.
Prairie Mountain Health director of diagnostic services Leanne Treloar calls it more advanced and says it operates much faster. She says there's also dose reduction software, which means less radiation for the patient.
Dr. Bittoo Malik says the diagnosis from the machine is the same, but their ability to get to that diagnosis is improved.
"The machine is such that the image quality is improved and we have advanced post-processing, which is programmed by the technologists for every scan. So our efficiency's improved, our image quality's improved," says Dr. Malik.
The Dauphin Regional Health Centre performs about 8,000 CT scans per year.
