A report on Facebook about a man found dead in Dauphin with head trauma and stab wounds is a fake, according to RCMP.
Manitoba RCMP media relations Sergeant Bert Paquet says a man posted a fake RCMP press release on Facebook. It has since been removed.
Paquet says the man is not affiliated with RCMP in any way.
"The male is not an RCMP employee, and again, the RCMP website was not the one hosting the press release. That press release was a clone of a legitimate one."
Paquet says police have spoken with the man, and no charges have been laid.
He also reminds people social media is not always a reliable source of information.
