A grassfire caused by wind and dry conditions destroyed some abandoned buildings and an old barn about 10 miles north of Virden yesterday afternoon.
Wallace fire chief Brad Yochim says no one was hurt.
"Three fire departments attended: Virden, Elkhorn, and Miniota. We maybe had 35 firefighters on scene, it was a fairly large area. We had it under control in half an hour but we were there for two hours just putting out hot spots."
Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship says the wildfire threat in the province overall is slightly above average due to below-average snowfall and soil moisture, combined with recent warm weather.
