Between today and next Friday Parks Canada is planning a prescribed fire from Lake Audy to Whitewater Lake in Riding Mountain National Park.
This prescribed burn is being conducted in order to improve the ecological condition of fire-dependent forest and grassland communities and to reduce the risk of a severe fire occurring in the park.
The entire burn area, including the Long Lake Trail, Grasshopper Trail and portions of the Central Trail, may be closed periodically to the public during the burn.
Long Lake, Minnedosa River, and Whitewater Lake campsites will also be closed.
There will also be temporary road closures on Lake Audy Road.
These closures will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so to minimize the disruption to park visitors.
