Community support is not going unnoticed by the Dauphin Friendship Centre.
DFC board president Susie Secord acknowledged the support the organization is getting at its AGM last night.
"I think the one thing that stands out for me is the community itself. The community support that we felt during the-- when the Towers burned down, with the hot lunch program, with the Christmas hampers. There's always a lot of support for those causes."
Forty-five voting members of the DFC attended last night's AGM.
It was noted at the AGM that no MP, MLA, city, or RM representatives were present. NDP federal candidate Laverne Lewycky was there.
Also at last night's meeting, a DRCSS student graduating this year was surprised with not one but two $1,000 scholarships.
Jerry Flett says he didn't know he'd be winning anything.
Flett was award one scholarship from the DFC, and was told he'd be getting another one at grad through the Manitoba Association of Friendship Centres.
The DFC is handing out a total of $3,000 to Parkland high school students this year. As well, three of four $1,000 scholarships from the Manitoba Association of Friendship Centres are being awarded to Parkland students.
