The principal of the DRCSS is calling an incentive-based initiative to boost student attendance a success, although it didn't change attendance patterns for the people it was meant to.
Principal Norman Casavant says the initiative has actually helped the students they weren't targetting.
"The students who had poor attendance, we thought that these incentives would support them being here more, and in actuality the students who already had good attendance simply were striving even more."
Casavant says the school will be re-evaluating how to impact students with low attendance records.
Next Wednesday, two draws will be held. One for students with perfect attendance for $1,000 in Chamber bucks and a gift certificate for Parkland Source for Sports, and one for students who achieved an overall attendance rate of 90 per cent-- the winner of that draw takes home a donated 1997 BMW Roadster convertible.
