Receiving emergency notifications in Grandview is easier than ever with the new Code Red Emergency Notification System.
The municipality recently introduced the service that allows for messages to be sent including text and calls.
Grandview Councillor Jim Winfield says it’s easy to sign up for the new service.
"You can go to the municipal website, http://www.grandviewmanitoba.com/ and there's a link on there where you can register, and if you don't have internet access, or you aren't comfortable on the internet, stop by the municipal office and they will help you register. You can sign up for notification by email, landline, cell phone, text message, by voice calls, there's a variety of ways. In my case I've signed up for them all.
Winfield also says the cost of the system is well worth it.
"It runs about 1500$ US per year to subscribe, and we find that's a very reasonable cost with the amount of service we will get out of it. It not only provides emergency notifications, which as our weather patterns change that becomes more of a pressing issue. Plus as we are alongside a major rail-line and highway, having emergency notifications on short notice is important."
The system can be used to send messages that include information about emergencies, power outages, and boil water advisories.
