On Thursday, at 5:15 in the afternoon, RCMP responded to a three vehicle collision at the intersection of Provincial Roads 240 and 331 near Southport, 6 km south of Portage La Prairie.
A car was waiting to turn east when struck by a van from behind and pushed into the ditch.
The female driver of the van stepped out to check on the 4-year-old boy in the vehicle when she was struck by a southbound truck.
She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital while everyone else involved were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
