New regulations surrounding who gets put in the drunk tank are being enforced by the Brandon Correctional Centre.
People entering custody late at night who appear intoxicated will soon have to be assessed by a medical professional.
During overnight hours, staff at the jail currently makes that decision.
In addition, intoxicated prisoners arrested by rural police in the Westman area detachments with jail cells, will no longer send prisoners to Brandon.
