The Hoe Down Dinner and Dance fundraiser for the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society is taking place this Saturday.
The annual fundraiser raises money and awareness of Schizophrenia. It is held at the Watson Art Center on the 7th and features entertainment by Country Rose. Leanne Marcheniuk, Outreach Worker for the Parkland Region of the Schizophrenia Society of Manitoba talks about why this event is important.
“To help reduce stigma, because there is still a great stigma around mental health concerns. It’s a lot better than it used to be but there is still a large stigma with it. Everybody wants to have an event where they can go out and have some fun. This is something that kind of a fundraiser at the same time but is a place to just go have fun and be like everyone else.”
Tickets are only $15 per person and are now available at the Dauphin Friendship Center or by calling Leanne at 204-263-2689.
