A petition to save the Grandview Ambulance service from provincial spending cuts has been given to Manitoba Liberal MLA Jon Gerrard to be presented in the legislature.
Over the past few weeks, over 25 hundred residents in the Grandview area signed the petition. This is an important issue for Gerrard who has been involved in the issue since the beginning.
“I was at the meeting in Grandview, and I heard while I was there the very strong opposition to moving the medical emergency service station away from Grandview. Since then I’ve kept in contact with people in Grandview and I met yesterday with Sue Stirling who brought the petition down.”
Gerrard is waiting a bit until he presents the petition to the legislature. “Now I understand that Dr. Rae and others now have a meeting with senior people in the staff of the Kelvin Goertzen’s Department of Health and perhaps even with the minister himself. I’ve been asked to hold off on reading the petition in the legislature to see if they can possibly resolve it and keep the ambulance station, the emergency medical services station in Grandview.”
Under the province's plan, the station in Grandview is one of about two dozen ambulance services in Manitoba to close.
