The three historic century-old buildings in Virden were a complete loss after a fire destroyed them yesterday morning.
The fire began in the basement of a computer store on 7th Avenue near Nelson Street. Firefighters from Virden and Elkhorn battled the flames for 15 hours.
Wallace District Fire Department Chief Brad Yochi thanked community members that came out to help to help during the fire. Members brought food, water, and heavy equipment- like a track hoe that was used to take down the facades of the three structures so that the firefighters could get to the blaze better.
No injuries reported and there is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
