Riding Mountain National Park is hosting a Heritage Camping Experience this Saturday and Sunday.
The experience is set to place at Lake Audy with activities such as exploring the Aspen Parkland on horseback, stargazing, and storytelling with Wilfred Buck who is known as Manitoba's Star Guy and fall asleep under a starlit sky.
Desmond Mentuck, Anishinabe Cultural Interpreter, provides some details on how this experience came to be.
“Parks Canada and the Indigenous Peoples of Canada, not only in Riding Mountain National Park but across Canada are working together to develop and present interpretive experience for Canadians to tie into the 150th anniversary of confederation this year, and the heritage camping experience that we’ve come up with is an example of that. It provides a unique experience and opportunity for visitors to come and experience an overnight stay and get a little more understanding, I guess, of the first nation’s peoples’ connections to the land and significance in other areas.”
