Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea continues to plague producers in Manitoba.

With over 60 cases reported to date, the issues surrounding PED continue to be a concern. Chief veterinarian Officer for the Manitoba government, Dr. Megan Bergman, talks about what ways the Manitoba government is working to get the word out about PEDv.

“I think from our perspective we regularly have producer meetings and town halls so that we have the opportunity both to give advice and guidance in terms about what we learned about the outbreak so far, opportunities for prevention and where producers might be able to further enhance their biosecurity standards. We have those on a regular basis so that we can continue to provide updates as we work through these outbreaks. Because the more informed the producers are about what we learned and what we can do from a prevention and elimination standpoint the better we will all be as we work towards achieving negative status again."

The most recent cases of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus occurred after pigs from a farm that had recently recovered from an outbreak were moved to a new location. A new case of PED then showed up on the new site.
