Riding Mountain National Park prohibits the use of drones in the park.

Cal Martin, Visitor Experience Manager for RMNP, notes the ban on drones overall and why it is in place.

“Actually drone use is prohibited in national parks and national historic sites and national marine conservation areas,” noted Martin.  “Basically there is a national directive saying that drone use is not permitted simply because as our primary purpose is to protect the ecological integrity and commemorative integrity  and to ensure that people have a really good and enjoyable experience and it’s felt that drone use has the potential to negatively affect those things.”

Drone usage in parks can harass wildlife and be an invasion of privacy to those who are out to relax in the wilderness.

RMNP considers drone usage for those making documentaries or educational materials, but a permit must be filed out and approved beforehand.
