A 33-year-old woman sustained an injury while in custody of Portage RCMP, according to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.
On Tuesday Dakota Ojibway Police Service notified the IIU of an incident that occurred on Saturday. According to police, the officers arrested the woman for driving offenses and other Criminal Code violations. She was transported to the Portage RCMP detachment. During the process of lodging she sustained a laceration to her forehead.
She was not seriously injured, but the civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to assume control of the investigating.
The investigation is ongoing.
