The public can attend a free Beaver Damage Control Workshop, hosted by the Intermountain Conservation District, on August 10 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Pine River Community Centre.
The 7 municipalities that the IMCD works with are facing the same challenges with the damage beavers are doing in their areas.
Jeff Thiele, I-M-C-D Manager, goes into detail about what is to be featured at the workshop.
“So at the workshop there is going to be some people talking about trapping of beavers as well because there is a real healthy, large population in the Intermountain Conservation District area,” noted Thiele. “There is also going to be a demonstration of beaver pond levellers wo we are actually going to install one that day and what those do, we are not trapping the beavers at a certain location, we are trying to lower the water level. So if we can lower the water level down from 6 feet of water behind the dam down to 3 feet, and then there is a lot less flooding behind the dam.”
The workshop is free for the public and lunch is provided, to register contact the IMCD office before Friday.
