There has been much debate in Manitoba and Saskatchewan about a possible carbon tax imposed by the Federal Government.
The Keystone Agricultural Producers have been in various meetings including one with Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler on July 7th to try and gain a better understanding about what the Government has planned.
KAP President Dan Mazier talks about where he believes the carbon tax is headed.
"All indications are there is going to be a carbon tax introduced in Manitoba, we are waiting for a discussion paper and the Premier will send that out in fall. Hopefully they give us time to analyze that and have some productive input. It will probably be introduced during the throne speech or during the budget, things have to happen by January 1st 2018 and they will have some sort of budget line for this program."
KAP has also been working with the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce, Manitoba Trucking Association and Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, who all share similar concerns about the carbon tax.
